Located between Denver and Boulder, Westminster offers a wide variety of neighborhoods, home styles and price points. Residents enjoy convenient access to major employment centers, shopping, recreation and an extensive network of parks, trails and open space.

Because Westminster stretches across both Adams and Jefferson counties, the character of the city changes from one area to another. Buyers can choose from established neighborhoods with mature landscaping, golf-course communities, newer developments, townhomes and properties near Standley Lake.

What It’s Like to Live in Westminster

Westminster offers the conveniences of a larger suburb while still providing plenty of opportunities to spend time outdoors. Its central location makes it possible to commute to Denver, Boulder, Broomfield and other parts of the northwest metro area.

Southern Westminster is closer to Denver and includes some of the city’s older, more established neighborhoods. Northern and western Westminster generally offer newer homes, larger communities and greater access to open space and mountain views.

Westminster Neighborhoods

Bradburn

Bradburn is a thoughtfully designed community with traditional architecture, front porches, neighborhood parks and a walkable town-center area. The neighborhood includes single-family homes, townhomes and other attached options.

Legacy Ridge

Built around the Legacy Ridge Golf Course, this community offers a mix of detached homes and townhomes. Buyers are often drawn to its landscaped surroundings, trails, neighborhood amenities and convenient location between Denver and Boulder.

The Ranch and Ranch Reserve

The Ranch is an established golf-course community with mature landscaping and a range of home styles. Nearby Ranch Reserve includes larger homes and lots, with many properties offering mountain or golf-course views.

Countryside

Located near Standley Lake, Countryside is an established neighborhood with parks, trails and relatively convenient access to Boulder and the western suburbs. Homes vary in age, condition and level of updating.

Walnut Grove

Walnut Grove sits near the Boulder County line and provides easy access to open space, trails and the US 36 corridor. The neighborhood includes a mix of detached homes and townhomes in a convenient northwest Westminster location.

Hyland Greens

Hyland Greens is known for mature trees, community amenities and an established neighborhood setting. Homes include a variety of architectural styles, lot sizes and renovation levels.

NorthPark

NorthPark is a residential community with detached homes and townhomes, neighborhood green spaces and convenient access to shopping and major roads. The area offers an established suburban setting in northern Westminster.

Shaw Heights and Westminster Hills

These established neighborhoods offer a range of ranch, split-level and two-story homes. They can appeal to buyers looking for mature neighborhoods, larger yards and convenient access to Denver.

Downtown and Historic Westminster

Downtown Westminster is a growing mixed-use district with apartments, dining, entertainment and community events. Historic Westminster offers older homes, local businesses and access to Westminster Station.

Parks, Trails and Open Space

Westminster has an extensive network of parks, trails and protected open space. Its trail system connects neighborhoods with recreation areas, shopping districts and neighboring communities.

Popular outdoor destinations include:

  • Standley Lake Regional Park
  • Big Dry Creek Trail
  • Westminster Hills Open Space
  • Farmers’ High Line Canal Trail
  • Little Dry Creek Trail
  • Westminster City Park
  • Westminster Center Park
  • Hyland Ponds Open Space
  • U.S. 36 Bikeway

Standley Lake Regional Park is a major recreational destination for walking, bicycling, fishing, paddling, camping, wildlife viewing and picnicking.

Shopping, Dining and Entertainment

Westminster has several shopping and dining districts rather than one traditional downtown center.

Downtown Westminster continues to develop as a walkable destination with restaurants, residences, public spaces and community events. The Westminster Promenade area offers entertainment, dining and access to nearby hotels and recreation.

Additional shopping and everyday services are available along Sheridan Boulevard, Federal Boulevard, 120th Avenue, Highway 36 and throughout the northern part of the city.

Commuting and Location

Westminster’s central location is one of its greatest advantages. US 36 provides direct access to Denver and Boulder, while I-25, I-70 and the Northwest Parkway are accessible from different parts of the city.

The Westminster Station area provides commuter-rail access to Denver Union Station. Bus and regional transit options are also available, although service and convenience vary by neighborhood.

Actual commute times depend heavily on the property’s location, time of day and final destination.

Westminster Schools

Westminster addresses may be served by Westminster Public Schools, Adams 12 Five Star Schools or Jeffco Public Schools.

Because district and school boundaries vary throughout the city, buyers should verify the assigned schools for any individual property directly with the appropriate district. Westminster also has charter, private and alternative education options.

Buying a Home in Westminster

Westminster’s broad housing inventory is one of its strengths. Buyers can find mid-century homes, established suburban properties, golf-course communities, townhomes, condominiums, newer construction and homes near open space.

When comparing properties, it is important to consider:

  • County and school-district boundaries
  • Property taxes and possible metro-district assessments
  • HOA fees and community amenities
  • Proximity to major roads and transit
  • Age and condition of the home
  • Access to trails, parks and open space
  • Commute patterns and preferred destinations

Two Westminster homes with similar prices can offer very different locations, neighborhood settings and long-term ownership considerations.

Westminster may be a good fit if you value:

  • Access to both Denver and Boulder
  • A wide range of neighborhoods and home styles
  • Extensive trails and open space
